Chapter 16 The Butterfly Effect

Looking at the entire battlefield, the main formation of the Korean navy had long been broken apart under the strong impact of Yasuji Hashisaka and Kato Kamin. Except for more than ten warships at the southern end, all ships, including the Yuanjun flagship, were captured or destroyed by the Japanese army; the fierce bombardment of more than 80 warships on the right wing and the raid of the Jiaming detachment were also collapsed. The commander, Jeju Water Envoy Xie Se-ho, was unfortunately caught in a stray bullet when he led his troops to retreat and died on the spot. The remaining seven slab boats risked their lives to break through Yoshihiro's fire blockade and retreated south.

When he learned that the formation and the remnants of the right wing were approaching one side, the left wing general and Lishui Prefecture sent Cui Qi to send four sentry ships to the response, and finally gathered about 100 remaining warships in the waters south of the formation, attacking Ogasawara Moyu's fleet with the intention of breaking through the southern line and entering the sea. However, he failed to break through Ogasawara Moyu's defense line three times in a row, and the morale of the entire army was frustrated one after another.

At this moment, the sky was getting brighter and the fog gradually dissipated. The envoy of Yoshihiro caught up with Jiaming in a fast ship. After boarding the ship, he handed Yuanjun's head to him and signaled him to hang it on the mast to attack the morale of the young soldiers.

"This plan is very wonderful, only His Highness Yoshihiro can think of it." Jiaming couldn't help but nod and praised. While ordering his subordinates to climb up the mast and hang the head properly, he shouted to Cui Qi's troops opposite: "Old man Cui Qi, glared at your silence, but he still knew this person?"

Cui Qi had just organized the third breakthrough and was exhausted and had no intention of talking to Jiaming. He handed the Nanman Mirror to the deputy general and asked him to see what tricks the Japanese army was doing.

The deputy general didn't care much at first, and slowly raised the Nanman mirror and looked up at the mast. He must have been unprepared. After two or three seconds, the deputy general suddenly shouted Yuan Jun's name and fell to the ground. His voice was very loud, so that the officers and soldiers on the surrounding ships could answer clearly. Everyone whispered and heard each other. Many people cast strange eyes at Cui Qi, with surprise and doubt, but the most was fear.

Cui Qi felt something was wrong now, so he hurriedly grabbed the Nanman Mirror and kicked the deputy general's head. This kick was really cruel and he was bleeding on the spot. Fortunately, the generals persuaded him to save his life.

"What are you talking nonsense? Don't you know that disrupting the morale of the army is a death sentence?" Cui Qi raised the Nanman Mirror angrily and was also startled. But he knew that this matter was related to the morale of the entire army and would never admit it! So he laughed loudly and said, "Child Kato, do you want to deceive me if you just find a head? Is it really overestimated his ability!"

Jiaming was not a fool either. He knew that Choi made this statement for stability, and he was also prepared for him. He signaled the messenger to read the contents on the waist card in public, and asked him to describe the clothes and ornaments he wore when Yuan Jun died in great detail, and would never give Choi any reason to refute.

As expected, as soon as the envoy was halfway through, the Korean navy opposite started to riot, sobs, insults, grievances, and sighs one after another, and the whole army was suddenly covered by a depressed atmosphere. Some officers and soldiers even surrendered to the nearby Japanese army in small boats. In their opinion, the commander died in battle, and this battle was no longer suspense. For the sake of his wife and children, he could not die in vain. What is more important than life?

Cui Qi wanted to organize a rebuttal at first, but as the envoy's description became more detailed, he gradually lost confidence in his heart. When he saw someone surrendering on a boat, he felt the urgent situation and thought that if he didn't take any measures, the situation might worsen further, and the scene of surrendering without fighting might be staged.

"You guys have a good time to see how the Japanese pirates treat the marshal." Cui Qi pretended to be calm and shouted in a mocking tone: "It's so cruel to treat the chief officials in the border, let alone you treacherous soldiers? If you become traitors, aren't you afraid that your family will be implicated?"

This passage was immediate. When the North Korean officers and soldiers who were about to surrender stopped immediately when they heard that they were implicated in their family.

"Yes, isn't we surrendering to see our family alive? If we really become a traitor, the court will investigate it at that time, will it be implicated?" A surrendered North Korean general said to the deserters around him.

"Instead of implicating relatives, it is better to fight against the Japanese pirates. Even if they die, the court will not treat our family badly. At least they will not let their children have a traitorous father, nor will they let their parents have a traitorous son." The Korean deserters around them also echoed.

"Sir, let's go back!"

"Yes, go back!"

"Okay, let's go back and have a good fight with the Japanese pirates later!" The surrendered general stood up solemnly and ordered loudly: "Right-right rudder, return to the team!"

After hearing the order, not only this ship, but most of the escape ships turned around and sailed towards Cui Qi's original formation. I guess this is the best interpretation of the "butterfly effect".

"These are some things that are not toasted, please punish them if you want to eat them!" Jiaming was furious and cursed with hammering his hands on the railing.

This incident was naturally witnessed by Yoshihiro on the shore throughout the whole process. Although he was a little angry, he was more regretful, "It seems that this battle will continue." He originally used Yuan Jun's head to attack the morale of the young soldiers, prompting a few unsteady officers and soldiers to surrender first, which in turn triggered the mainstream, who were unwilling to fight, and tried his best to reduce the losses to the lowest level. This is also an application of the "butterfly effect". But who would have thought that these deserters were so "unprofessional" that they retreated at a critical moment, and instead strengthened their belief in fighting the entire army to fight to the death. It was really smart but was mistaken for cleverness.

"You can't delay it. I'll send our military orders. All the reserves will shoot freely. Be sure to kill these deserters at sea!" As he spoke, a cold light flashed through Yoshihiro's eyes. In his opinion, since he could not take it for himself, he had to destroy it. If these unarmed deserters were sent back, it would definitely be a big threat.

As soon as the military order was issued, the gunners and iron cannons on the shore spread out and fired wildly at the North Korean ships that had already rowed halfway and turned back. Because the few soldiers were not prepared, and most of them were small boats, they had no power to fight back. They were sunk in the blink of an eye.

Seeing the scene, Kato Kazuya and Katsura Wakisaka Yasuji also realized it suddenly and immediately ordered the ships to disperse their firepower and shoot freely. In an instant, smoke of gunpowders splashed, and wood chips stained with blood were thrown into the air. The sampan with dense craters sank into the bottom of the sea. The broken corpses scattered all over the sea, and the wails resounded through the clouds. Another tragedy that should not have happened but had to happen was staged in this sea area.

Massacre is still the most vivid description of this naval battle, or rather, it is not a war full of massacres, but a massacre called war.
