Chapter 15 The Physician?

After Athens failed in the Peloponnese War and experienced the brutal rule of the "Thirty Tyrants", Athens's knowledgeable people were more or less aware of the flaws in the system, but no one had ever said that they completely deny Athenian democratic system like Davers. These deafening words were like a loud thunder, which made Xenophon not come back to his senses for a long time, and he was confused in a trance: "...Is Sparta... the best?"

"Sparta?!" Davers sneered: "When it decided to turn its compatriots into Black Rouss (referring to the Mesenians), it was destined to never be powerful! Although the Spartans were brave, thousands of Spartans wanted to suppress ten times its slaves. Its city-state was like a volcano. Once it encountered a major failure, the volcano would erupt."

"Davers, Sparta is now the most powerful city-state in Greece!" Olivers interrupted.

"Then let's see how many years its strength can last!" Daphs answered confidently. He vaguely remembered that soon the war broke out in Greece again, and Sparta was defeated by the rising Thebes and thus declined.

"Is this an oracle?" Several teammates were surprised.

Davers smiled but didn't answer.

"So, which city-state has the best system?" Xenophon asked unwillingly.

Davers also gave him a mysterious smile.

At this time, Xenophon seemed to have returned to calm, but in fact his heart was ups and downs. Decades of habits and beliefs were beaten to pieces by Davers' words. He did not completely lose his composure. He relied on Socrates' years of teaching, which made him better at learning and thinking independently than ordinary people.

He was restless and could no longer stay. He wanted to go back and think carefully about what Davers said. So he said goodbye to Davers.

Before leaving, Davers asked casually: "Xenophon, have you commanded the army before?"

"Has served as the captain of the cavalry." Xenophon replied hurriedly.

Looking at the back of Senofin leaving, Daphs' expression became solemn: As a student of Socrates, Xenophon's knowledge was obviously far superior to his teammates; but as a new arrival, an Athenian with a low reputation, and without rich experience in mercenaries, he is still just an adjutant in the leader of Proxinus, how could Xenophon lead this retreat?!

Thinking of the author of "The Long March" by Xenophon himself, Davers inevitably wondered whether Xenophon had put other people's credit on him?

"Davers, are Athens and Sparta really that bad?" Compared to the misty people who heard others, Hilos clearly understood it, so he became even more confused.

Davers nodded and sighed, "If it were a time of peace, Athens and Sparta would live well, but this is an era where you will perish if you don't strive forward!"

Xiros seemed to understand and couldn't help asking the same question as Xenophon: "So is there a city-state in the Mediterranean that has a better system than Athens and Sparta?"

Davers looked at Hilos' curious and longing eyes, turned his head: in the sky, the sunset emitted its last rays before falling, looking at the clouds dyed red, thinking of the Mediterranean world in the future, wars broke out frequently, and powers rose one after another, like a lantern. Until the emperor appeared, the dazzling light shone on the Western world for more than two thousand years...

A sudden sense of pride rose in Davers' heart. This time he did not refuse to answer again, but said affirmatively: "No. If you and I can live forever, maybe one day you can see it!"

……………………………

In the early morning, Davers's mind was in a daze and he heard the crowds of people outside the house.

"Awaken! Wake up! My nephew is awake!!" Antonios broke into the house with ecstasy and hugged Davers: "Thank you! Thank you! Ascesters is alive!!"

Before Davers was fully awake, he asked in a daze: "Really?"

"It's true!" Helps, who followed closely behind, said excitedly: "Asistus is awake! His body temperature is not as hot as yesterday. Although he is still very weak, he can already drink the porridge made from bread. Davers, the method you taught does work!"

Facing Herpsy's admiring gaze, Davers's heart finally fell to the ground. He suppressed his excitement and said calmly: "Although Asistes is out of danger, he cannot relax. Continue to take care of him as described before and let him return to normal as soon as possible!"

"Yes!" Helps replied respectfully.

"Davers, there are many people outside who want to see you." Hilos said in the door.

"Oh, it's Capps and the others. When they heard that Asistes woke up, they were surprised. They must come and see you. They may want to get your help." Antonios replied with shame: Davers put so much energy into saving his nephew, and might even pray to Hades. Before he could make a return, he might bring him new trouble.

"Caps?" Davers had no impression of the name.

"Another heavy infantry squadron leader in our camp." Hilos explained.

Davers pondered for a moment and immediately stood up: "Let's go out and don't let them wait for a long time."

Surrounded by everyone, he walked out of the house.

"Look, Davers is out!"

"Is this Davers? You're so young!"

"Don't look young, he is the real Hades' favor! Otherwise, how could Asisters be woken up by him? I haven't seen you and I before."

"Davs, I have a brother under me who was also injured like Assisters. He was hot all over and unconscious. I hope he could get your help!"

"One of my subordinates was injured, too..."

"And I..."

In the small yard, the crowded people waved their arms desperately, and their shouts were like surging tides, one wave higher than another.

Faced with a little out of control, everyone was a little nervous, but Davers' expression remained unchanged. As a cadre promoted from the bottom of the class in his previous life, he had seen many petitions in towns, counties and cities. Even when he was the village chief, he once held a meeting in the town. When the farmers surrounded the town government for explanation due to land expropriation, the leaders hid, and only he stood up and faced the hoes and sticks held by the excited farmers, he tried his best to persuade them to withdraw. This small scene in front of him was really difficult, let alone for him, this was a good thing.

He raised his hand and shouted, "Please be quiet!"

"Quiet! Quiet!..." Antonios and the others also shouted.

People gradually calmed down.

"I am very grateful for everyone's trust!" Davers said excitedly: "We are all fighting together and facing dead comrades together! They are all good brothers who can leave their right shoulder to their teammates to protect! Any brother who is injured will take Helps and do our best to treat him and never abandon any wounded person!!"

Helps was so excited when he heard his name.

Hearing this, the soldiers in the yard were even more grateful.

"That's great! Thanks Hades!!"

"Thank you, Davers, you are our savior!!"

"Davers, you are our best brother! I will do my best to do whatever you want in the future!!"

In this era, it is very common for soldiers to be injured, infected and died, and it is also a nightmare that plagues the army. Now, Davers has let them see hope. And this person is so generous and kind, how can he not touch them!
