Chapter 50: The Second King of Langya

Following the steps of the young monk, Wang Sheng walked into the White Horse Temple.

The heavy snow is falling, and the White Horse Temple seems to have some Buddhist charm.

There were also some pilgrims going around.

However, most of these pilgrims are women. The noble ladies walk in style, while the women who have not left the palace wear gauze hats and come in twos and threes to the White Horse Temple to worship the Buddha.

This shows that Buddhism still had some influence at this time.

In front of the Main Hall of White Horse Temple, some people are gathering around it.

Two high platforms were built in front of the palace. On the two high platforms, two people were sitting cross-legged.

Sitting on the high platform facing east is a man who looks like a Taoist priest, and the person sitting on the high platform facing west is wearing the attire of a monk.

The person on the high platform facing west is naturally the Dharma Protector Bhikkhu.

But who is this Taoist on the high platform facing east?

It is probably not an ordinary person to be able to sit across the stage from the Dharma Protector Bhikkhu.

When they arrived in front of the Main Hall, the monk who had brought Wang Sheng also went down.

The monk only introduced the Dharma Protector Bhikkhu to Wang Sheng. In addition to the question Wang Sheng asked about who were the eminent monks in the temple, he probably did not want to promote the reputation of this Taoist priest.

Due to the dispute over beliefs, the relationship between Buddhism and Taoism is not very harmonious.

Fortunately, although this square is large, there are not many people.

Those who can come here today are probably from noble families and descendants of high-ranking families.

After glancing around, Wang Sheng immediately saw Wei Jie's figure.

Next to him was a plump woman, probably a member of Wei Jie's family.

"Brother Shubao."

As he got closer, Wang Sheng also called Wei Jie gently.

"Marquis Guangyuan..."

A smile immediately appeared on Wei Jie's face and he hurriedly came forward to greet him.

"When Mr. Lang arrived, he didn't even say a word to me in advance? But he was born."

"Not coming now."

Wang Sheng smiled softly, but his eyes were directed at the woman behind Wei Jie.

"Who is this?"

Wei Jie smiled slightly and introduced: "It's Zhuojing."

She is truly a wife of a royal family.

Wang Sheng quickly saluted her.

"My little brother pays homage to my sister-in-law."

Wei Jie is older than Wang Sheng, so calling her sister-in-law is not too much.

"Shan has met the prince."

The Shan family is the granddaughter of Shan Tao, and can be regarded as a family of etiquette, poetry, and books. Wang Sheng is now the founding prince of the country. Even if he respects her as an elder, he still needs to have the proper etiquette.

Although there are many noble ladies from aristocratic families who come to the White Horse Temple to make and fulfill their wishes, in front of the main hall, there is very little pink color. This Shan family is the only one that Wang Sheng sees.

This is one of the reasons why Wang Sheng was able to find Wei Jie at a glance.

Wang Sheng stared at Shan for a long time. Wei Jie also knew that Wang Sheng had some doubts in his heart, so he quickly explained: "Zhuo Jing has always liked Laozi, Zhouyi, and divination. Now that Guo Pu has come to Baima Temple, this time

That’s why I came to the temple.”

It turned out to be this reason.

Wang Sheng nodded slightly.

His attention was attracted by Guo Pu.

Speaking of which, Guo Pu...

Wang Sheng also had some impressions.

And it’s a great impression.

Let's just talk about reputation. In the Song Dynasty a thousand years later, Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty named this guy Wen Xibo. In the Yuan Dynasty, Emperor Yuan Shun named him Lingying Hou.

The rumors during this period were even more mysterious.

One of them tells that Guo Pu went to Lujiang County, and Hu Mengkang, the prefect of Lujiang, was summoned by Prime Minister Sima Rui to offer wine for military consultation.

Of course, this happened a few years later, that is, after the Yongjia Rebellion, orthodoxy had reached Jiankang, which was Jiangnan.

At that time, wars broke out frequently, but there was still peace between the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers. Hu Mengkang was safe and did not want to cross the south of the Yangtze River.

Guo Pu divined for him and the result was "defeat".

Hu Mengkang didn't believe it.

Guo Pu packed his bags and was about to leave, but he fell in love with a maidservant of the owner of the house. He couldn't get it for a while, so he took three measures of adzuki beans and scattered them around the owner's house.

When the master got up in the morning, he saw thousands of people in red clothes surrounding the courtyard. When he looked closer, there were no more people. He felt disgusted and frightened, so he asked Guo Pu to divine fortune for him.

Guo Pu said to him: "You should not keep this maid in your family, but take her to a place twenty miles southeast and sell her. Do not bargain with the buyer, otherwise the monster will disappear on its own."

The master will act accordingly.

Guo Pu secretly sent someone to buy the maid at a very low price. Then he drew a talisman and threw it into the well. Thousands of people in red clothes tied their hands behind their backs and jumped into the well one by one. The master was very happy.

Guo Pu also took this maid and left here. Later, Lujiang fell within a few days.

The descriptions therein are somewhat supernatural.

Guo Pu's ability may have been exaggerated, but he still had talent at that time.

In the Jin Dynasty, he was a representative of Taoism as famous as Baopuzi Ge Hong. In literature, he wrote annotations for "Erya", "Dialect", "The Classic of Mountains and Seas", "The Biography of Emperor Mu" and "The Burial Classic".

, passed down to the world, and the Ming Dynasty compiled "Guo Hongnong Collection".

"Guo Pu came here to argue with Dharma Protector Bhikkhu. What was he arguing about?"

Wei Jie obviously knows much more than Wang Sheng.

"Who comes first, Taoism or Buddhism?"

This is not an easy argument to make.

Moreover, Wang Sheng was not interested in discerning Buddhism and Taoism.

Since he was defending Taoism, this Guo Pu was probably the one who taught Zhengyi the Tao of Heavenly Masters.

Tianshi Dao is now considered a prominent branch of Taoism.

It is divided into Zhengdao Road and Wu Dou Mi Road. Even now, most people can't tell the difference between the two.

The word "zhengyi" means that righteousness drives away evil and unites all things with unity. The righteous is not evil, and the one is not mixed. The heart of righteousness means that all things will be unified, so it is called righteousness.

Zhengyi Sect was founded by Tianshi Zhang Daoling, the founder of Tianshi Taoism, and he wrote "Laozi Xiang'er Commentary" as Tianshi's family study, which laid the foundation for the later development of Taoism.

The Tao of Heavenly Masters was founded by Zhang Daoling, Zhang Heng, Zhang Lu, and their ancestors for three generations.

At that time, in the Bashu area, the original Ba people believed in primitive witchcraft and carried out large-scale obscene sacrifices that harmed the people. However, these shamans who worshiped ghosts and gods gathered together to make money and committed all kinds of evil.

Master Zhang, together with his two disciples Wang Chang and Zhao Sheng and the Yellow Emperor's Nine Cauldron Alchemy Sutra, came to Beimang Mountain to practice. Later, a large-scale religious conflict occurred with the witch and ghost groups.

The story circulated in Sichuan and Chongqing that Zhang Tianshi defeated the ghost soldiers with Taishang Laojun's sword seal and talisman. This is the prototype.

The Wugui Sect, which was driven away, was unwilling to fail. Under the leadership of the great wizard Zhang Xiu, it radically changed the teachings of Tianshi Tao and established the Five Pecks of Rice Tao.

According to the Book of the Later Han Dynasty, "Ling Di Ji Ji", it can be seen that Zhang Xiu was called "Bajun Shaman", "Bajun Lich", etc.

The founding of Zhengdao made Taoism appear in the form of a religion, which was different from the previous shamanism. It worshiped Taishang Laojun as the highest believer and laid the foundation for thousands of years of Taoist history.

The origin of Buddhism is hard to say.

In this dispute between Buddhism and Taoism, who comes first and who comes last depends on the previous book, but...

There are no previous books!

At this time, we can only rely on them to make it up.

What I originally thought was a literary thing has now become tainted with moral disputes, which makes it boring.

Wang Sheng felt a little disappointed.

The dispute between Buddhism and Taoism began in the Eastern Han Dynasty.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Jia Shemo Teng argued with various Taoist priests; during the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Zhi wrote "Bian Dao Lun" to criticize the deception of the immortal theory.

Disputes over religious orthodoxy are often boring.

With this time, Wang Sheng might as well go back and read more military books.

Wei Jie obviously saw Wang Sheng's reluctance and asked quickly: "Aren't you curious about whether the Buddha or the Taoist is the first?"

Chinese people are all about watching the excitement.

Wei Jie is no exception.

"Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism are all connected, and the three religions have always had the same ancestral style. On the day when Shu County traveled to the west, when I sent a letter to say goodbye to Guandong, all the barbarians bowed their heads, and the great road restored its foundation."

Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, after being localized and baptized by war, were finally integrated together to form the later social values.

Among the three, there is no relationship between who is worried and who is inferior, who is first and who is last.

"Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism are all connected, and the three religions have always had the same ancestral style. On the day when Shu County traveled to the west, when I sent a letter to say goodbye to Guandong, all the barbarians bowed their heads, and the great road restored its foundation."

Wei Jie murmured to himself, but felt a little confused in his heart.

"Taoism and Buddhism are one family, but why are Taoism and Buddhism one family?"

Wang Sheng always has a hard time telling. In order to unify the three religions, later generations and predecessors compiled many books to provide arguments for later generations.

The most famous among them is "Laozi Hua Hu Lun".

The theory that Laozi turned into a barbarian was first fabricated by Buddhism. In the early days, Buddhism had just entered the Central Plains and had difficulty in spreading. Therefore, it often relied on Huanglao Taoism. In order to make the Central Plains society accept Buddhism, it even created "Laozi became Sakyamuni" or "

Laozi’s theory of educating Sakyamuni.

The "Xiangkai Biography" in "Book of the Later Han" says: "It may be said that Laozi went to Yi and Di to become a pagoda." In this record, Laozi came out of seclusion and did not know where he ended up, instead it became Laozi who founded Buddhism in foreign countries after he came out of seclusion.

In this era and hundreds of years to come, Taoists use this as an argument, saying that the Tao comes before the Buddha, and that the Tao is great and the Buddha is small.

"I'm just tired of fighting over who comes first. If I have this time, I might as well translate more basic scriptures."

Behind Wei Jie, Shanshi also had some doubts in his heart.

"On the day of the journey to the west of Shu County and the farewell to the east of Hanguan, did you mean that the ancestor Taishang left Hangu in the west?"

Wang Sheng nodded slightly.

"But why are all the barbarians bowing their heads, and the road is restored to Mingji? Where did you see this scene?"

Of course, there is no record of it in the historical records, and they say that future generations can compile it.

Unexpectedly, Wang Sheng's sister-in-law was a Taoist believer.

Wang Sheng had no choice but to muddle through.

"But just saying it casually cannot be taken seriously."

"But?"

Mrs. Shan glanced at Wang Sheng, she always felt that Wang Sheng knew something that she didn't know.

pity.

Marquis Guangyuan didn't want to say it, and she couldn't ask anymore.

You can ask your husband to inquire on your behalf.

Thinking of this, when Mr. Shan looked at Wei Jie, two small dimples appeared on his face.

The three of them stopped talking. On the high platform, the two silent people also began to speak.

"Master Dharma Protector, today you and I are debating the Dharma, and we will only talk about the Dharma in our hearts."

Contrary to what Wang Sheng thought, although the two were arguing, the atmosphere was very harmonious.

After thinking about it for a while, Wang Sheng also figured out the key.

One of them is a representative of Buddhism and the other is a representative of Taoism. Of course, they have to argue.

But we didn't force them, and we didn't necessarily have to fight to the death.

After all, both of them are now famous in Luoyang.

Today's debate, in other words, is for these distinguished people in Luoyang.

That is...

An ancient exhibition game?

"Can."

On the high platform facing west, the Dharma Protector Bhikkhu didn't even open his eyes.

"I think there is no need to argue about the order of Buddhism and Taoism."

"Laojun sees the earth in the form and teaches the West. The Tao gives birth to Buddha, the Tao is the original Buddha and the transformed trace, the Tao is big and the Buddha is small.

The Huayi regions are different. In the preface of Laozi, the east is wood, which belongs to Yang, and is the birthplace of "Tao"; the west is metal, which belongs to Yin, and is the birthplace of "Buddha". Yang is superior to Yin and is inferior, so Taoism is superior to

Buddhism.

Buddhism comes from Tianzhu and is the religion of the Yi and Di. The Yi and Di Hu people have a low culture and are not as good as China, so they should not follow it.

There are different races between the Chinese and the Yi people, and their minds must be different if they are not from our race. The Yi people believe in Buddhism, but the Chinese do not.

....."

Guo Pu spoke three thousand words eloquently for half an hour.

As soon as Guo Pu stopped speaking, before everyone could get out of Guo Pu's words, Dharma Protector Bhikkhu also expressed his views.

“What the donor said makes sense, but can the Tao be called a teaching?

To call Taoism a religion, any method of establishing a religion must first have a master. If Taoism does not have a master, how can it be called Taoism?

Because of these three things, Taoism cannot be called another religion.

One person talked about Zhou and Confucius. Zhou and Kong were both missionaries and could not call themselves leaders.

Why?

The religion is the religion of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors.

The leader is the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors.

Before the two cases, the Han Dynasty Art and Literature Chronicles discussed the modern ancient tombs and concluded that there were nine schools of thought.

One is Confucianism, the other is Daoism.

The Tao has no different teachings and is always within the nine streams.

According to this, there is no different religion.

Why?

No reason for the leader!

If we say that Lao Tzu is the leader of the religion, then Lao Tzu is not an emperor, but he can be called the leader of the religion.

If there is someone else who is the master of Taoism, then the Five Classics can be said to be canonical, and the three emperors have already come to Zhou Gong, Confucius and others.

It’s true that there is a Heavenly Lord living in the sky who teaches and teaches and becomes the master of Taoism.

There are also three or less apocryphal scriptures, falsely claiming that the Supreme Being is the master of Taoism.

Since it has no owner, how can it be called a teacher?

The three can be said to be the leader of the religion. The three emperors and the five emperors are the masters of the world. The three tombs and the five canons are the world religion. They are taught by the world first, and then by the transcendental teaching. This is all, the filming method is already universal, and it is the predestined relationship. Why should there be another Taoism?

The affairs of a country are determined by the wind of one person. The emperor has wind that can transform the world, so he can be called "teacher".

If the Tao is not the Son of Heaven, it cannot have wind. Since it has no wind, how can it be transformed without wind, so it cannot be called teaching.

According to this, there are two religions, and it is said that Taoism has entered the Confucian stream.

Moreover, I am a common man and have not given up my troubles.

There is something to say. But the teachings of the three emperors are prefaced.

..."

Dharma Protector Bhikkhu has a lot to say, but these examples are all to demonstrate his point of view.

Taoism does not have a leader, and it is believed that Taoism cannot be called a religion.

Since Taoism is no longer a sect, how can you say that Buddhism came earlier than me?

The two of them talked passionately about the debate, and Wei Jie was also fascinated by it, but Wang Sheng was not very interested in it.

At this time, at the entrance, Wang Sheng met Wang Director and Wang Dun.

Once these two people came together, Wang Sheng finally found what he wanted to do.

"Brother Chu Zhong, brother Mao Hong."

Wang Sheng hurriedly greeted him. The guards were awakened by Wang Sheng's voice. Seeing that it was Director Wang Dun who was coming, he quickly followed suit and saluted.

Now that the Langya Wang family is powerful, even though the Hedong Wei family has recovered its strength, it is definitely not as good as the current Langya Wang family.

"Marquis Guangyuan."

"Junhou."

Wang Dun glanced at Wang Sheng lightly without any expression, while Director Wang returned the favor enthusiastically.

Director Wang was also quite distressed about his brother.

Because of the reward, the relationship between Wang Dun and Wang Sheng gradually became estranged.

This is not what he wants to see.
