Chapter 33 Fish
This breakfast tastes like chewing wax—and the taste is worse than wax.
After finishing a breakfast that was not very satisfactory, Duncan's mood did not improve at all as his stomach was filled. Instead, some of the information mentioned by the goat head inadvertently evoked a lot of conjectures, so he became a little irritated.
He looked at the dove Ai, strolling on the nearby shelf, and felt that the random thoughts in his mind became more and more outrageous.
He always believed that this dove full of "earth talk" was born because he had the soul of an earthling. He believed that when he was walking in the spiritual world, the individual "Zhou Ming" reacted with the brass compass, which gave birth to a strange bird like Ai.
But what if...this isn't the case?
What if the pigeon is just a phantom that ran out from a "deeper" place, and then it happened to condense its form around it?
Then the "earth words" that Ai popped up from time to time have nothing to do with "Zhou Ming"'s memory, but have become a projection in a certain history recorded by the world itself...
The possibility behind this upset Duncan.
Alice stood up, her voice interrupting Duncan's random thoughts: "Do you need me to wash the dishes?"
Duncan glanced at the doll lady in surprise, who scratched her hair awkwardly: "I think since I have already boarded the boat, I should find something to do, otherwise I will be like a scrambler..."
"But you don't eat at all," Duncan reminded her, "but it's good to have this heart - send the plate to the water room and discuss with the pool. If it doesn't mind, you wash it."
After saying this, he stood up without waiting for Alice to answer, and walked towards the captain's office door and said casually: "I'll go inspect the deck, don't bother me if you have nothing to do."
The dove, who was walking on the shelf, immediately flew to Duncan's shoulder and left the room with Duncan, leaving Alice at the sailing table with her goat's head.
"Is the captain in a bad mood?" After hesitating for a moment, Alice asked the goat head carefully.
The goat head said in a deep tone: "The captain's mood is like the weather in the vast sea. Don't speculate, just accept it."
Alice asked quickly without waiting for the goat head to continue speaking, “By the way, the captain said just now that I asked me to discuss with the pool…how to discuss it?”
"Simple, if you wash things, if you get splashed, it means the pool doesn't like you - speaking of it, do you know how to wash dishes? If I don't know, I have some theoretical experience..."
Before the Goat Head finished speaking, Alice quickly packed up the tableware on the table, then rushed to the door and shouted: "No need, I will learn, thank you Mr. Goat Head!"
The captain's room suddenly became quiet, leaving only the black and broken goat head on the table, staring at the direction where everyone left with empty eyes.
After a long time, a sigh came from the navigation table: "How good I have legs..."
Then its eyes returned to the chart.
The fog around the Lost Country still dissipated slowly, and the captain's helm task left to it still had to be completed well.
Under precise control, this huge and "living" ghost ship nimbled the angles of each sail and began to sail on this vast sea. The goat's head hummed a boat song that was passed down from unknown years - a rough and hoarse, and a noise-like "hum" echoed in the captain's room:
“The sails are raised, the sails are raised, and the sailors who leave home continue to move forward;
“In the wind and waves, in the noise, we are only one layer of wood from death;
"Put the jacksail, open the mainsail, release the cables, and grab the side of the boat! We have come to the middle of the sea!???.
"Stay away from the fish, and stay away from the fish, and sailors must cross the routes occupied by the offspring;
"Stay away from the fish, stay away from the fish! We want to dock safely - the spirits and stoves are right in front..."
Duncan walked around the warehouse where supplies were stored, then around the kitchen, and finally returned to the deck in the middle of the Lost Country.
No matter how many times he searched, there was no more ingestible thing on the ship than jerky and cheese.
The good news is that he doesn't have to eat maggot-bred biscuits like the sailors on Earth. The bad news is that there are not even maggot-bred biscuits on the ship.
He temporarily threw the previous random thoughts aside and came to the edge of the deck with a quiet Ai.
Looking at the vast sea, he kept thinking:
“…Anyway, I have to find a way to supplement the necessities of life on the Lost Country… Although I cannot pay too much attention to the quality of life on the ghost ship, I cannot really live like a ghost after all…
"Alice may need to change clothes, but there is no dress on the boat that suits her.
"We must establish contact with the city-state on the land as soon as possible... The Lost Country has been drifting on the sea for too many years. The city-state on the land may have developed to an unpredictable level during this period. From the scenes seen in the sewer before, at least the Plander city-state is a powerful and advanced city. The revolvers carried by cultists can also illustrate the technological development of human society...
"The ancient ghost ship may not be so invincible in the face of a civilized society that has developed for a century. The remaining power of the Lost Land Crown is still there, but it will be difficult to deal with if only the remaining power is left..."
Duncan glanced at Ay on his shoulder.
Maybe... I will accumulate my energy today and it is time to try the next "spiritual world walk".
"Gugu?"
Ai tilted his head and finally some movement that a normal pigeon should have appeared.
Duncan couldn't help laughing, and at this moment, he suddenly noticed that there seemed to be a flash of light on the nearby sea surface.
He was attracted by the movement and subconsciously glanced out of the boat for a few more times, then noticed that something seemed to be swimming below the nearby water surface.
After hesitating for a while, Duncan suddenly slapped himself on the forehead.
"Hey! My reaction... This is on the sea! Are there fish in the sea?"
The sudden appearance of "possibility" made Duncan's mood suddenly improve. He realized that establishing connections with the land and stabilizing material replenishment for the Hunting City is not something that can be done overnight, but can't this vast sea itself help?
There were fish in the sea - and he had enough jerky and cheese on the ghost ship!
Duncan's enthusiasm was aroused. He remembered that there were heavy fishing rods for sea fishing in a warehouse under the deck, and the positions for fixing the fishing rods can also be found on the ship's side at the edge of the deck. As for the bait... I wonder if the jerky and cheese can work?
In this way, the curse doll was washing dishes in the water room, and the talking goat head was concentrating on the boat, but the captain of the Lost Country became busy between the deck and the cabin.
Duncan quickly found what he wanted. He carried three heavy fishing rods and "bad" together, and then he was quite unfamiliar with fixing these things on the edge of the ship's side, baited and threw the rod, and moved an empty bucket from nearby to serve as a chair for waiting.
Duncan actually has no experience in sea fishing - all his fishing experience is limited to the pond and a small river in his hometown. He doesn't know if his whim can really catch fish, but he is idle anyway, what if?
It is for the rest and recuperation before the next spiritual journey, and by the way, you can also keep your expectations for future improvements in food.
Duncan sat down between several fishing rods, and during the long wait, his mood returned to calm little by little.
The sea conditions today are quite stable, with some clouds in the sky, but there is no sign of a storm.
Duncan sat on the wooden barrel, leaning against a winch used to fix the cables, and narrowed his eyes slightly as the hull swayed.
At some point, he fell into a state of half-dream and half awake.
He dreamed that he was barefoot on the calm sea, with blue waters, sunshine and warmth.
The familiar and "normal" sun in my memory hangs high in the sky, bright but not scorching.
He heard the sound of splashing water, and looked along the sound, but saw a fish suddenly jumping out of the calm water nearby.
It was a group of golden fish, which looked only as big as a palm. They spit bubbles in the air and swung their tails, as if swimming in the water, slowly surrounding Duncan.
The fish swimming in the air came over little by little. Zhou Ming looked at them curiously, their round eyes, their fine scales, their open and closed mouths, and the fine lines floating slightly behind them, like water waves.
Zhou Ming suddenly felt that these fish were very beautiful, and...
Very fragrant.
It must be very, very fragrant.
