Volume 11 Thunderbolt Scroll Chapter 82 The Victory of the Escort System

.

After the Arkansas sank, the rest of the American battlecruisers were also sunk one by one. The naval battle in the Pacific came to an end, and the next thing was still boring submarine warfare. The American submarines were like ubiquitous cockroaches, stubbornly harassed the hearts of those captains on the Pacific route.

·Because China's warships turned their attention to those American battlecruisers, they did much less anti-submarine work. American submarines entered the second golden age, although the Chinese Navy had intervened in the escort operations in the South China Sea very early; although China had long sent military delegations to Germany to master the basic tactics of US submarines.

·But China's anti-submarine measures are far from being truly implemented - coastal areas have not implemented *** controls; light marks and navigation marks on the route are still shining brightly; ships sailing at night still turn on their lights and use openly clear communication; those strict regulations on paper are not implemented, they are just empty text.

·There are basically no escort fleets along the coast of China, and almost all sail in single ships. In a word, the Chinese's security is too lax. They still think that the war is still within China's sphere of influence! All these lighting and radio communications are well used by US submarines and become the most ideal source of intelligence to grasp the whereabouts of Chinese ships.

Therefore, the Chinese Navy was far from being prepared for anti-submarine forces in terms of organization, anti-submarine force training and quantity. At that time, the Chinese Navy had no special anti-submarine mechanisms in the maritime battle command and headquarters. The anti-submarine forces were only about 280 ships of various types, including 76 destroyers, 56 minesweepers, fourteen submarine hunting ships, 11 gunboats and 23 offshore patrol boats, and there were only 72 anti-submarine aircraft.

Because the number of US submarines operating along the eastern Pacific coast is small, they do not adopt cluster attack tactics, but instead implement single-boat hunting. Usually, they regain their energy in the seabed of submarines far away from commercial routes during the day; after nightfall, they search for targets on the route in the water state. Once prey is found, they often launch torpedoes close to the minimum range of torpedoes to ensure that torpedoes are not wasted. For small ships, US submarines are difficult to obtain supplies from far away from the base, and captains are reluctant to use torpedoes, and generally use artillery on the deck to sink them.

The fifteen submarines of the US military have made great profits, especially the Blue Fish, who was captain of the Navy Major of Hagen. It set a record of sinking eight transport ships, totaling 53,000 tons. Hagen wrote in his navigation log with emotion: "If there are thirty or submarines, I can guarantee that they will achieve greater results!"

Throughout January, US submarines sunk a total of 48 transport ships in the Pacific Ocean, totaling 277,000 tons, almost all of which were obtained in the Chinese waters in the last two weeks of January. With the results in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, a total of 62 ships were sunk, 328,000 tons.

Due to the brilliant achievements of the first batch of US submarines on the eastern coast of the Pacific, the morale of the US submarine forces has been greatly stimulated. On February 10, Deniz sent the third batch of fifteen submarines to China. These batches are large submarines with a displacement of 1,600 tons, with enough fuel to cross Panama and slip into the Pacific Ocean.

On the 17th, China began to strengthen its vigilance for coastal targets and began to implement maximum controls on important targets, making it difficult for US submarines to detect shore targets. The shelling plan had to be cancelled.

Although submarines operating on the eastern Pacific have achieved remarkable results, to be honest, this kind of damage is not fatal and is very lucky for China. If a large number of US submarines arrive on the eastern Pacific, the consequences will be unimaginable! Even if the war situation does not reverse, it is undoubtedly a greater price to pay. The short-sighted Americans give the Chinese the opportunity to adjust.

Since mid-June, China has expanded the scale of the escort transport fleet from Taiwan and reduced the number of fleets. It has changed from once every five days to once every seven days, so it has squeezed out two escort brigades to strengthen the escort on the eastern Pacific Ocean. This method is actually not difficult to do, but it has amazing results. The losses of Chinese merchant ships have been reduced by more than half.

At the end of June, China began to implement the escort transport fleet system, so the US submarine frenzy was finally stopped. The submarine was driven out of the offshore waters where the attack was easier to succeed by powerful escort warships, and it was no longer difficult to obtain fighter jets calmly. Despite this, the US submarine also achieved a record of 74 sinking ships in June, totaling 431,000 tons.

In July, China began to establish an escort fleet system throughout the east coast. According to months of experience, General Tan Fenglin, the commander-in-chief of the Chinese Navy, believed that the escort fleet system was the only way to solve the threat of submarines.

We will strive to organize the escort fleet system, from the earliest local escort, that is, one anchorage escort to the next anchorage, and gradually expand into the entire Pacific escort system.

It also began to organize shore-based aviation troops to provide air cover for the fleet, and also allocated a batch of warships from the Pacific Fleet to the eastern seaside region, forming six escorts, each including two destroyers, two armed trawlers and three other ships to strengthen the escort force on the eastern coast. By July 15, US submarines were expelled from the major routes in China's Pacific. Throughout the first half of the month, US submarines only sank ten transport ships.

On August 23, in view of the establishment of China's east coast escort fleet system and the air cover of strong shore-based aviation forces, the United States ordered submarines to withdraw from the eastern Pacific Ocean and head south to the Gulf of Mexico, which had not yet established an escort fleet system, to exchange for the greatest results at the minimum price. Throughout May, the US military sank a total of 41 transport ships, about 220,000 tons in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. With the results of other waters, the US military sank a total of 125 transport ships, totaling 607,000 tons.

On June 24, the captain of the American submarine jointly wrote a letter asking to redefine the tasks undertaken by the submarine based on the development of the war, especially proposing that when the Allies equipped with new radars, they strongly demanded the construction of new submarines with high speed, and raise the importance of building such submarines to the level that determines the outcome of the war.

The Stodmeier-class submarine is named after the high-efficiency engine invented by the submarine engineer Stodmeier. This engine generates power through the reaction of hydrogen oxide and seawater, which can completely change the traditional way of diesel engines that must float out of water regularly to charge the battery and can sail underwater at a high speed for a long time. Unfortunately, it was only during the development period, and it took a lot of time to complete the production of the molding and mass production.

In the face of the Americans' powerful defense industry, this was nothing, but the American industry had to do too many things. The modification of battleships and the construction of aircraft carriers, and these large engineering stations used too many resources, so the excellent submarines expected by the American submarine force did not quickly become a reality.

Starting from July, China's escort system has extended to the Caribbean Sea and opened up four new escort routes: firmly controlling the Pacific Ocean. However, this is not the end. At the end of August, China adjusted the offshore escort system and began to implement a segmented escort system.

All ships sailing along the Pacific coast of China are included in this system, with Guam, Hawaii and San Francisco as three important starting points, among which Guam is - Piao Astronomy - and San Francisco is the end point. After the ships arrive in Hawaii, they form a fleet across the Pacific Ocean and head to the West Coast of the United States.

In order to reduce the heavy burden on the starting port, a strict timetable was formulated. Some fleets that went directly to New York did not need to enter the intermediate port, and were handed over by escort warships, and then changed the fleet code. This system was fully promoted in 1917 and was used until the end of the war.

It is precisely because of the implementation of this system that in mid-August 1917, no ship was lost in the Pacific Ocean, and only thirty ships were lost in the Gulf of Mexico. The implementation of the offshore escort system and the segmented escort system reduced China's losses on the eastern Pacific coast to thirty-nine in August 1917, accounting for 0 of the 9,064 sub-ships in the entire escort fleet. It is much lower than the escort transport fleet across the Pacific Ocean. 1. The escort system ensures the safety of ships during offshore voyages.

Compared with China's successful escort, the Americans' situation is a bit bad. If the umbilical cord of the Chinese Expeditionary Force cannot be cut off, then the terrorist army that suddenly appeared in front of the people of New York would appear again in the last World War, and then the second surrender, which is an ending that no one in the United States can accept and cannot happen no matter what.

Therefore, the Americans urgently needed a weapon to reverse this unfavorable situation. They were still superstitious about the power of weapons and did not realize that World War II was a cruel and abnormal war, fighting for the comprehensive strength of the country, rather than the same two weapons.

But I still have to be amazed that the creativity of Americans is really extraordinary. Soon, an unprecedented weapon that was one hundred years ahead of the times was developed by the Americans and quickly put into production. China's routes continued to face the threat from the Americans!
