Chapter Three [Many Lord and Bad News]

These graves are the place where children who died in infancy are buried. Children under the age of ten who die are all considered to have died in infancy. This is a custom in our rural areas. Children who have died in infancy cannot be mourned, nor can funerals be held, or in other words, as few people as possible

You know, and children who died young are very resentful, and you can't get too close to them, otherwise they will pester you, so the parents don't set up tombstones, burn paper money, or place offerings. No family is exception.

The reason why I am familiar with this piece of land is because this piece of land was designated by my grandfather. He took me here before. All the children who died in Huai Village and our village were buried here. This piece of land was seen by my grandfather.

If I am not mistaken, there is a stone tablet in the burial ground. Because this place was destroyed, there has been no trouble. For this, the villagers are very grateful to my grandfather.

I left the grave and looked into the distance. Sure enough, there was a dim stone tablet among the graves. Although it was inconspicuous, it did exist.

"unlucky!"

I picked up the jade pendant and wiped the dirt on it. The jade pendant had become warm and moist, and it felt different from before. Moreover, I felt particularly at ease holding the ancestral jade pendant. Maybe my ancestors showed up. After this tossing,

It was almost dawn, so I walked out of this cemetery quickly. Although the cold wind was still blowing, it was not as severe as at night. Moreover, I was now able to identify the way to Huai Village. With my current foot strength, I should be able to catch it.

Arrive at Grandpa Man’s house before breakfast.

Nothing strange happened on this road. The reason why Huai Village is called Huai Village is because there is a huge locust tree at the entrance of the village. In summer, you can sit under it to enjoy the coolness without using a fan. It is said that this locust tree is a hundred years old.

, Grandpa Man lives at the entrance of the village, I will arrive soon.

Most of the bungalows in Huai Village are made of red kiln bricks, and the tops are covered with gray-black tiles. The better ones have cement floors inside, while the bad ones have just dirt floors.

At that time, because of the humid temperature, grass could still grow inside the house. My grandfather Man was the head of Huai Village and his family was relatively wealthy, so I knocked on the red-painted door.

Before I even entered, I asked about the taste of scallion pancakes, and my stomach growled a little unsatisfactorily.

After a while, Grandpa Man opened the door. He was ten years younger than my grandpa. He was a very energetic old man. He was wearing a black Chinese tunic suit with some greasy stains on his sleeves. He often had a cigarette in his mouth and his eyes were slightly narrowed.

Is it because of the smoke, or is it just like this.

Man Ye held a cigarette in his mouth, touched my head with his calloused hands, helped me pick off the leaves on my head, and said with a mouth full of yellow teeth:

"Zhong Yuan, you don't have school today. Why did you come to Man Ye's place to play so early?"

He was not very tall, and he even had to stand on his tiptoes to touch my head. Only then did I remember the business:

"My grandpa is dying and wants to see you one last time."

"What?! It won't work anymore?!"

Master Man suddenly thought of something important. He was stunned for a while, patted his head, and started to walk forward.

"I'm hungry."

I grabbed Master Man. Master Man was stunned, threw the cigarette in his mouth on the ground, got into the house, took out a few scallion pancakes, pressed them into my hand, and said:

"Tell Master Man, when did it happen?"

"Last night, after my father told me, I came here."

I grabbed the scallion pancake, took a bite, and said.

"Last night? Then why did you come here just now? Where did you go to play?"

Man Ye was a little angry and hit me hard on the head with his hand, and his tone was a bit harsher.

I bit off most of the scallion pancake in one bite, rubbed my head with my hands, and said:

"I...when I came here, I met the wrong road god. It was almost dawn before I found the road."

"You came out in the middle of the night? Oops, come back with me!"

Man Ye's expression suddenly changed, and all the wrinkles on his face were squeezed into a pile, making him look like a wrinkled old man.

After I devoured a scallion pancake, I followed closely behind Man Ye. Although Man Ye was younger than my grandfather, he was still an old man in his sixties and his legs and feet were very nimble. I was actually sweating profusely as I ran and still fell behind.

, when we arrived at our village, Master Man had already arrived at my house. I stopped and gasped for air. There were many villagers surrounding my house. It was still very early at this time, and it was rare to see so many people.

"Zhong Yuan! You're okay, that's great!"

My body tightened and I was picked up by someone. The air in my lungs was squeezed out. I yelled:

"Heifang, let go!"

The person holding me let go of Chubby's hand after hearing what I said. Fatty Hei was so happy that he was so cold that he didn't even notice the mucus coming out of his nose.

Heipang's real name is Zhang Chunsheng, but he is very fat and dark, so people in our village call him Heipang. He has been playing with me since he was a child, and we are classmates, so we have a very good relationship.

"Why are you making such a fuss? It's still early to go to school. Why are there so many people in my house?"

I gave Hei Fatty the last scallion pancake and asked as I walked away.

Suddenly, my arm was pulled. My little black eyes were wide open, full of fear, and my body was shaking a little. The other hand was holding the scallion pancake tightly, and stammered:

"Don't...don't go."

This is the second time I have seen Fat Hei like this. The first time was a few years ago when I went to an orange orchard with him to steal oranges. He was chased by a local dog and was bitten on the leg.

"Why?"

I frowned. The fat man's courage was inversely proportional to his size. He was big but timid.

"You...your grandfather is dead..."

"Dead?! Are you kidding me?"

I glanced at Fatty Hei with some anger and raised my fist. Although I was half the size of him, my fist was very strong. If he joked again, I would definitely beat him to the ground.

"All... all dead."

The fat man was afraid that I would beat him, so he ran away as fast as he could. The fat on his body trembled and he soon disappeared from my sight.

I spat on the roadside a few times, said bad luck secretly, and rushed home. However, when I got to the door, my neighbors had already stopped me. Some of them had tears in their eyes. There was something special in the air.

I took a look at the front yard and saw traces of firecrackers being set off, and white mist spreading out. There were people talking all around, making it very noisy.

"Aunt Zhang, let me pass."

Aunt Zhang is a dark and fat old woman with a very tall figure. A pair of chubby arms hugged me. My head was immediately buried in the center of her plump chest. There was a special aura of a rural aunt coming from her body, which made me suffocate.

Can't help but feel angry.

I broke free from her arms, squeezed in, and went straight to grandpa's bedroom.

Man Ye was sitting on the edge of the bed, with his head lowered and silent. There was a person lying on the ground with a towel covering his face. It was indescribably strange. The room was quiet, no one spoke, and it was not as noisy as outside.

I was stunned. The person lying on the ground was wearing a floral cotton-padded jacket, navy blue trousers, and a pair of dark red embroidered shoes. This, this is not what my mother usually wears.
