Chapter 5 The Choice of Normandy (3)
"You can come in."
A sound came from the hall. Then, the two guards blocking the door made way. Ella and others walked in with boxes. As a duke, the hall was not very spacious. At the end of the room, there were two rows of stairs leading to the second floor. In the middle of the two stairs were hung from the Duke's family's flags, and under the flag were placed two better chairs, one of which was empty and the other was sitting on the duke.
Because he had just recovered from anorexia, the duke had a good face and his physical condition was not very good. Beside him was a young warrior in armor, with a look similar to that of the duke, and he should be the duke's son. Apart from that, there were no one else in the room. There were some animal furs from hunting on both sides of the hall, some weapons, bottles and other decorations were placed on the ground, and two long tables, one of which was knocked over, and the bottles and jars on it fell all over the floor.
The Duke sat in the chair and did not move. When Ella and others came in, he waved his hand and the soldiers closed the door of the hall.
"Duke," said the merchant lowered his head and turned his body toward Ella, "this is the King of Sweden."
The Duke then stood up and bowed slightly to Ella:
"King of Sweden, please accept my respect. Because of my discomfort, I cannot greet you from afar, please forgive me."
"It's okay." Ella waved her hand carelessly, "This time it was a secret visit."
So the Duke sat back on the chair.
"I just heard arguing here outside, as if I were talking about something about potion?" Ella asked.
"It's nothing, some small disputes within the territory." The Duke answered perfunctorily, and then said seriously, "If I understand correctly, King of Sweden, you are here this time to contact our consul through me and discuss the alliance to deal with the Tianfang Empire, right?"
"If I understand correctly," Ella responded seriously, "You have decided to stand on our side this time when you meet me, and will talk with us to submit to the consul and reach an alliance to fight against the Tianfang Empire, right?"
The Duke neither nodded nor shook his head, so the eyes of both sides collided, and there was a bit of gunpowder.
Ravi was unable to adapt to Ella's changes for a moment, so he poked Sivaton beside him and asked whispered: "Who is this person?"
"It's your Majesty, no doubt." Amy knocked Ravi's head, "In diplomatic occasions, your Majesty's aura has never lost."
The son of the duke standing beside him interjected:
"You should already know that King of Sweden. Not long ago, my father had an anorexia disease not long ago. A few days after he got sick, the priests of the Tianfang Empire came to the door and said that they would help my father pray. At that time, they said that the disease had been taken over by God and no doctor should intervene. Otherwise, if it cannot be cured, these doctors would be responsible for their arrogance. As a result, my father's illness became more and more serious, and he almost starved to death in bed. In the end, it was only by relying on King of Sweden that your medicine was improved. So what we think about now is to get out of the Federation as soon as possible. If King of Sweden is willing to help us put pressure on the Earl of France, it would be better."
"Don't talk too much." The Duke glared at his son, and then continued to say to Ella, "My son is right. I now prefer your heroic kingdoms than the Tianfang Empire. However, the church of the Tianfang Empire has taken root in the Almani Federation and is quite influential. As a lord, everything I do must be for the future of my territory, and cannot act without authorization based on personal likes and dislikes. You have to let me know whether the alliance with you can bring some minor benefits to my territory?"
This is a condition to be put forward. But to Ella and others, it was quite ironic to hear a lord who had an affair with a thief robber plundering a cargo ship saying "for the sake of the territory."
"I helped you calm the wrath of the Hero King and save Normandy from the war." Ella asked back, "Isn't this good enough?"
"I returned the gold, paid the military expenses, and dealt with one of the vassals below. Even if you don't help the King of Sweden, the King of Heroes should withdraw his troops, right?" The Duke leaned forward. "King of Sweden, I'll just say here. I want me to help you contact the consul. Yes. I want to stand on your side and help you speak. But you have to give something accordingly so that I can do it willingly. I want sulfa - the sulfa that can guarantee that my family and I survive the threat of the Black Death, can you give?"
When speaking the first half, Ella once thought that the Duke of Normandy wanted the lion to blackmail. She never expected that the Duke had used such serious eyes and tone, but the final request was sulfonamide - and it was only the share used by the family.
"The recent production of sulfonamide is really insufficient.................."
Ella tried hard to think about the language, so it was difficult to act on such a simple requirement.
"Recently, most of the students in the Alchemy Academy have been injured by flying axes, and their output has been further reduced, um..."
"If you can't get sulfa," the Duke looked at Ella sternly, "Please forgive me for not being able to fight against the Tianfang Empire."
"Okay, I'll try to make a difference." Ella nodded with the pain, "It really made you profit."
The Duke breathed a sigh of relief and his tone calmed down:
"Then I'll say that. But there is still a small problem now, that is, I'm not sure if the consul is in Versailles. The King of Sweden, your visit this time is very secret. The Ile-departure area of France is complicated. If you delay there for too long, there may be any changes. So please wait for a few days here and wait until I investigate it clearly."
"Well? Where else can your consul be if he is not in Versailles?"
"It's just that there is such a rumor. I don't think any lord of the Federation can predict the movements of the Count of Ile de France. To be honest, he is a complete madman."
There were several sounds of pressing the door outside the door.
"Mr. Duke, a new law has been promulgated from the Palace of Versailles, please check it out."
"New law? Come again?"
The Duke frowned and signaled his son to go outside the door to get the things. In front of Ella, he spread out a roll of parchment and read out the words on it aloud:
"Given that the Black Death is spreading rapidly in the Federation and the positive effect of fresh air on preventing plagues, I, the consul of the Almany Federation, believe that the flow of wind should not be blocked by artificial buildings in this critical situation. Since the promulgation of the Act, all residences in the Federation must have two holes in the walls, each hole that can accommodate at least one adult farmer standing with his arms straightened, and two holes must be punched on both walls directly opposite to allow the wind to pass freely. These holes are not allowed to be blocked by wooden boards, windows, doors or animals. If any family member suffers from illness, the number of holes should be no less than three."
