Chapter 20 Northern Tribe (4)

Wuwuyi's plan is very simple: take the Aztlans in the wrong direction and buy time for their tribe to migrate. However, it was the first time she was surrounded by so many enemies since she was born. She could not predict what kind of treatment she would be treated along the way. Along the way, Wuwuyi kept shrank her head and dared not make a sound, for fear that she would reveal her identity if she was not careful. Even if she did not reveal her identity, it would not be a good thing to attract the attention of the Aztlans.

But the Aztlan officer talked to Wuwuyi from time to time.

"I really don't understand how you live here." He said, "I'm already dizzy. There are neither iconic buildings, no farmland or Chinampa, and there are not even paths that people step into. If I want to live here, I'm afraid I'll walk the wrong door every day and sleep with the wrong woman."

Seeing Wuwuyi lowering her head and not hearing what he said, the officer raised his whip and waved it angrily.

"I'll ask you, how did you find the way here? Don't take us wrong to other places, right?"

If it were in the tribe, no matter who whipped her, Wuwuyi would definitely pounce on her and fight. But in the face of the terrifying military power of the Aztlans, Wuwuyi chose to bow her head for the first time in her life. She answered honestly:

"There are iconic things on this grassland, hillsides, low-lying areas, woods, and even animal nests, which can be used to determine the location."

Upon hearing this, the officer looked around the surrounding environment.

"I can't see it at all. But it's fine, just find the right way."

It can be seen that the officer was in a good mood to find a guide on this deserted grassland.

Wuwuyi continued to lead the way with her head down, and thought in her mind how much time she needed to get her father to take to evacuate the tribe's compatriots safely. For safety reasons, it is natural to lead the group of Aztlands as far as possible. But after a long time, they will definitely be suspicious, and if they are too far away from the tribe, she herself cannot catch up.

During this period, through observation, she could slightly distinguish the identities and classes of the Aztlands - the slaves were surrounded by only a piece of white cloth; ordinary soldiers were wearing cotton armor; the armor of the higher-ranking officers was embroidered with bright patterns such as sun, cactus, butterflies, etc. The officer who talked to her should be the highest here. His wooden helmet carved an eagle beak, and his eyes were painted with paint. Only him was there, and behind him was a brightly colored cloak. This was similar to his father's decoration, and she guessed that it was the patriarch of the Aztlands.

"The Aztecs didn't seem to be very rich," she muttered in her heart. Slaves and civilians were wearing fabrics made of agave fibers, and high-ranking officers were wearing cotton coats. She was not familiar with these materials and felt that they were not as good as animal furs.

A loud and harsh whistle suddenly came from a distance. Wuwuyi had never heard such a terrifying sound. Although it was not as loud as a lion's roar, it directly penetrated her nerves and bone marrow, making her shudder.

The officer waved his hand to signal the troops to stop the march. Not long after, Wuwuyi saw a dozen Aztlans running from the direction of the whistle.

"Sir!" They pointed to the report that came, "We found many stoves there, and it is speculated that about 500 people had been stationed there!"

Wuwuyi felt a stern in her heart. She thought her plan had been successful, but she never expected that the Aztlans would have their own reconnaissance team.

The officer frowned slightly. The direction pointed by these soldiers were completely opposite to the direction pointed by Wuwuyi.

"What else have you discovered? Have you seen the tribe?"

"No." The soldiers replied, "Those stoves have been around for some time."

Wuwuyi breathed a little relieved. What these scouts should have discovered was the previous camp of their tribe. When they first moved from other places, they were stationed there. But not long after, they found that there were too many beasts around the camp and it was difficult to defend, so they moved a short distance to the west.

"It was the previous camp of our tribe," said Wuwuyi. "Because there were too many wild animals, we moved eastward."

The officer nodded without doubt.

"You continue to investigate," he said, "If you find anything again, come back and report to me immediately."

Although she successfully passed the level, Wuwuyi became more and more nervous. She was originally planning to take the Aztlans east for two days, and then sneak back to find her own tribe. But the Aztlans had a reconnaissance team and had successfully discovered the previous camp. If she continued to search, her tribe's location would soon be discovered.

She suddenly turned the reverse and took the Aztrans south.

"Wait a minute, is this road wrong?" asked the officer. "The terrain is so flat. If you want to go in this direction, you can go slanted from the beginning. Why do you have to fold it?"

"To go to our tribe, we have to continue walking in the direction just now." Wuwuyi explained, "but the distance is a bit long and we have to walk for two days. If we want to continue moving forward, we have to go nearby to replenish some water."

"The water in the army is still enough," the officer said. "Don't worry about the water, just keep moving forward."

Wuwuyi smiled and advised, "There is no other source of water when moving forward. Are you sure you won't replenish the water first?"

"Sir, I have been away for so many days and consumed a lot of water." A lower-level officer advised, "Since there is no water source in front, it's better to take this opportunity to fill up the water. It's not a bad thing to fill it up with more water."

The officer nodded and was persuaded.

"Not far?"

"Just walk for a short while." Wuwuyi lowered her head so that the expression on her face would not reveal her thoughts. "That is a rare mountain spring water, you should like it in the Aztland Empire."

So, Wuwuyi took the Aztlan soldiers and came to a mountain. It was said that it was a mountain, but it was actually just a slightly raised hillside. For the Aztlans who were used to plateaus and mountains, this was not even a small landblock. But on this prairie, it was indeed a mountain.

There are very few plants on the mountain, so there are many exposed rocks. The spring water that Wuwuyi said is under the hillside. The gaps in the rocks form a natural stone canal, which leads the spring water from above and eventually gathers in a stone pond.

The soldiers who had been trekking felt refreshed when they saw the water source. Before the commander could speak, they rushed up and drank it. After quenching their thirst, the soldiers began to fill the water bags in the spare water bags. Aztland had no carts or animal power, and they carried all the supplies with them. In addition to carrying the water and food for the day, there were also slaves in the army who were specifically responsible for carrying goods. From their shoulders to their waists, water bags were full of hanging everywhere.

The officer drank a few sips of water left in his water bag, and then handed the sack to a soldier. The soldier filled the kettle with water and ran back soon. The officer drank a few sips of spring water and sighed happily: "It's still the mountain spring water that comes from sweet."

"Yes." Wuwuyi's voice trembled a little, "The mountain spring water is very sweet."

"After that being said, what did you do?" the officer asked with a smile. "I knew the location of the water source, but I almost died of thirst before I met us?"
