Chapter 26: Starting a War (15)

The day after seeing Crodisius, the pirates' ship disappeared from under the city wall.

At first, the Duke of Aquitaine thought it was another enemy's trick to lure the enemy, so he ordered to ignore it and let the soldiers continue to hold the city wall. However, the next day, the pirates' ships were still missing. The Duke of Aquitaine sent several fast ships out to investigate. The ship walked around the Seine River, and after returning, he reported that all the ships in the Pirate Kingdom had indeed retreated.

"Did it be that they found that Paris has a solid defense and is difficult to conquer, so they retreated early? No... no, they have never attacked Paris with all their might, so how could they know how solid the defense is?"

The Duke of Aquitaine and his vassals and knights gathered together for a while and finally came up with three possible reasons: First, a big incident happened in the Pirate Kingdom and they had to retreat; second, they chose other targets, and the effect would be better than attacking Paris; third, attacking Paris was originally a feint, with the purpose of transferring them back.

If it is the first reason, the crisis they suffered has been lifted. And if it is the second and third reason, it involves a crucial question: Since Paris is not their target, what will they really attack?

They scratched their heads and couldn't figure out where the priority would be higher than that of Paris.

"Since we don't understand, we will garrison in Paris." The Duke of Aquitaine finally made a decision, "When the members of our faction shrink their troops from Anglia, then consider the next action."

"But there are all kinds of rumors circulating around, saying that you are dead, Duke." A lord whispered, "If you are a turtle here, will the rumors spread more and more powerful?"

"I will send my confidants directly to you for the important lords. As for those that will be affected by rumors... if they want to wait and see, let them wait and see. I didn't expect them to be useful! In short, before reinforcements arrive, our policy is to stick to it. It is always right to not stick to it!"

"Duke Takashi!"

The vassals and knights around him nodded, feeling that the plan proposed by the Duke of Aquitaine was quite reasonable.

"Speaking of this, three days have passed, why is there no news about Earl Kelshi?" Duke Aquitaine said with a frown, "Isn't something wrong?"

The people looked at each other: "It is true... it shouldn't be so slow. Even if we lose the battle, as long as the entire army is not wiped out, then we should see the remnants."

"Can Earl Kelshe not receive the news and is still besieging Normandy?"

"It can't be a battlefield disobedience..."

"I don't believe that the army of five thousand people will disappear out of thin air!" Duke Aquitaine shouted, "Send more people more! If there is no news, continue to explore. If there is no news, continue to move forward. Even if you run all the way to Normandy, you will still find them!"

Under this order, a few days later, news about the movements of the Count Kelshi's army finally came to the Duke of Aquitaine.

"What does it mean to turn southwest after arriving at Monfort?" The Duke of Aquitaine widened his eyes, "Paris is southeast of Monfort! Count Kelsch is not a road fool!"

"In the southwest direction..." a knight muttered, "Does he want to go back to the Principality of Aquitaine directly?"

"The Principality of Aquitaine? The battle has not been finished yet. What are they doing when they return to my Principality of Aquitaine? Now I want to rest? Then I will give them enough rest in the soil!"

The Duke of Aquitaine jumped up from the chair irritably, but when he thought about it, he sat back on the chair.

"This news may be false," he said, "those five thousand troops are not alone in Earl Kelshe. There are at least a dozen lords of all sizes, and some of them even have a grudge against Earl Kelshe. My order is to return to Paris. Even if Earl Kelshe wants to return to Aquitaine directly, other lords will not follow him."

"But this is the news we found..."

"Don't forget that around Paris, there are forces that even I, a living person, can be composed into dead enemies! Then, it should not be difficult for them to sow discord now." said the Duke of Aquitaine, "Send the most trustworthy soldiers out, rush directly to my territory, run out of the Duke of Ile-de-France, and then ask the villagers nearby! Ask a few more villages! With such a large-scale march, you can definitely see the villages along the way. No matter how capable the enemy is, he cannot control the words of all the peasants outside a Duke!"

"yes!"

So, another wave of scouts was sent out.

A few days later, the relevant information came to the Duke of Aquitaine again.

"What did you say? The peasants of the Duke of Orleans saw them?"

The Duke of Aquitaine still seemed a little unbelievable after listening to the report.

"It's not just the Duke of Orleans, but some people saw them further south! Their march was very fast, and they were probably going to enter Aquitaine in a short time!"

"What the hell is going on? What the hell is going on?"

The Duke of Aquitaine walked back and forth in the hall, and walked around for several times, but he didn't think of any reason.

"Duke," said a lord from below, "can it be the Earl of Kelshe...who wants to rebel?"

"Impossible! It's absolutely impossible! Since I can let him command troops, I won't doubt him in this regard!" Duke Aquitaine pointed his hand at the little lord who had just spoken, "Next time I will talk about such provocation and disagreement, I will cut you first!"

"But it is true that the Duke, Earl Kelsey disobeys." Another lord said, "He can't really be a road fool, he took the wrong path, right?"

The Duke of Aquitaine took a long breath.

"You said before that he had been stationed in Monfore before heading south, did you?"

"yes……"

"Then go to Monfort to explore! Take a closer look! Ask the surrounding villagers, but don't believe them easily! If you have any clues, just bring the person who provides the clues back to see me!"

Another wave of scouts was sent out.

Soon after, they brought someone back.

"Duke! This guy said he had clues about Earl Kelshe!"

The Duke of Aquitaine turned around and looked at the man who was brought over: he looked like a mercenary, carrying an exaggerated carved bow, a quiver and a dagger. It is worth noting that his facial features are quite elegant, and he only stood there and showed a very heroic spirit.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"Dust! Most brothers on the road call me the White Knight!"

Dust patted his chest, then involuntarily burped, spitting out a little alcoholic smell.

"What a white knight!" The Duke of Aquitaine waved his hand, "Put down and take a heavy punishment!"

"Wait a minute, Duke!" Dust was shocked, "I am an ordinary villager, come to report clues to you!"
