Chapter 18 Origin and Cause

Hearing Klein's question, Dunn looked out the corridor leading to the "Canis Door", took out his pipe, stuffed it into tobacco and mint leaves, then put it on his nose, sniffed a deep breath, and sighed with a slight squirting:

"Only at home can I enjoy the wonderful taste of tobacco and mint leaves unscrupulously... Klein, do you know the creation myth, right?"

"Of course, when I was enlightened at the church Sunday school, I relied on the words of "Revelation of the Night", in which the "Wisdom Book" and "Epistles of the Holy" mentioned the creation myth." While recalling that the original owner became a fragmented memory, Klein slowed down his speech. "The Creator woke up from chaos, broke through the darkness, created the first ray of light, and he completely integrated into the universe and transformed into all things. His body became the earth and the stars. One of His eyes turned into the sun and the other turned into the red moon. Part of His blood rushed into the sea and rivers, nourishing and nurturing life..."

Speaking of this, Klein unconsciously paused, half because the memory of the latter was blurred, and half because the creation myth was somewhat similar to the Pangu Kaitian saying of the great foodie nation...

People in different worlds have similarities in myths and legends!

Seeing that Klein encountered a "difficult problem", Dunn smiled and added for him:

"His lungs evolved into elves; His heart evolved into giants; His liver evolved into treemen; His head evolved into dragons; His kidneys evolved into feathered snakes; His hair evolved into immortal birds; His ears evolved into demon wolf; His mouth and teeth evolved into alien species; His remaining body fluids evolved into sea monsters, the essence of which was Naga; His stomach, His small intestine, the large intestine, the evil parts of His body evolved into demons, evil spirits and all kinds of unknown evil existences, His spirit transformed into eternal sun, Lord of the Storm, God of Knowledge and Wisdom…"

"Man was born in His wisdom, and this is the First Age, the Chaos Era." Klein said the last sentence, feeling both amused and absurd.

As a keyboard folklorist, this was the first time he had come into contact with the myth of creation in such a detailed way that each of the top races evolved from the Creator.

It's like sitting in a row and eating fruits...

And not only the texts of the Goddess of the Night say so, the Lord of the Storm, the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery also has similar descriptions, not alone to raise itself and belittle the rest of the gods...

This either shows that the creation myth is true, or it vaguely reveals that several major churches finally reached an agreement in prehistoric and before the Fifth century, after a long struggle and compromise...

Thinking of this, Klein suddenly had another question and frowned slightly:

"I think there is something wrong with this, why is the eternal sun, Lord of Storm, God of Knowledge and Wisdom born directly from the spirit of the Creator, and the Goddess is not?"

In the prehistoric record of "Apocalypse of Night", the goddess of night did not wake up until the end of the second period. Together with the Lord of the Storm, the Eternal Sun and other gods, she protected and helped mankind through the catastrophe, which is commonly known as the "catastrophe era".

The Earth God and the God of War also appeared at the same time. The "God of Steam and Machinery" originally named "God of Craftsmen" was not born until the Fourth Age.

In this way, the status between the gods seems to be self-evident.

Who is older and more orthodox, extremely clear!

This also caused some trouble among the believers of the Goddess of the Night.

Dunn Smith held the pipe with his other hand and asked without answering:

"You tell the goddess' name in full."

Crane suddenly felt like he had a knife, and she racked her brains and thought hard:

"He is the goddess of night who is more noble than the stars and longer than eternity, and is also the Lord of Scarlet, the Mother of Secret, the Queen of Disaster and Fear, and the Lord of Sleep and Silence."

Fortunately, Crane's mother is a devout believer in the Night Goddess. When she was alive, she had to come to eat every evening and meals. Even if the original owner's memory turned into pieces, it would not be completely lost.

"What does the Lord of Crimson symbolize?" Dunn asked in a guiding tone.

"Red Moon." As soon as Klein finished speaking, he seemed to understand.

"Which part of the Red Moon was derived from the Creator?" Dunn asked again with a smile.

"One eye alone!" Klein looked at each other and smiled.

This is no worse than the creator's spirit, which is divided into three parts, and the Lord of Storm formed!

As for the churches of Mother Earth and the God of War, there should be similar statements. Only when the God of Steam and Machinery was "born" was too late, and there was no reason to find - their churches were always weak for more than a thousand years before, and it was not until the steam engine was invented and took the lead that they truly stood together with others.

Dunn rubbed his pipe and said:

"Humans were born from the wisdom of the Creator, so they have a smart but extraordinary head and lack other magical abilities. However, from the creation myth, we can draw a simple and clear conclusion that all things are born from the same origin."

"Born from the same origin..." Klein repeated the last few words.

"According to this conclusion, humans who are fighting against giants, demons, aliens and others under the protection of gods have gradually figured out how to obtain extraordinary power, that is, to use evil spirits, dragons, monsters, magical trees, flowers or corresponding parts of crystallization, and to combine with other materials to make potions, then take absorption and master different abilities. This is the common knowledge of all mystical schools."

Dunn did not give much description, but briefly introduced, "In this process, our ancestors relied on the painful lessons to find that if we directly take high-grade, extraordinary potions, it is easy to end up with tragic consequences, and there are only three possibilities."

"What three?" Klein asked curiously.

"First, mental death, physical collapse, every piece of flesh and blood becomes a terrible monster, second, the power contained in the potion instantly changes personality, becomes cold, sensitive, irritable, cruel, and ignores everything, third..." Dunn put down his pipe, picked up the porcelain cup next to him, and took a sip, "Felmer's coffee in the Pass Valley is bitter but also fragrant, and has a great aftertaste. Do you want a cup?"

"I prefer Fenneport's plateau coffee, of course, I only drank it a few times at Welch's house." Klein politely refused, "What's the third?"

"Insanity, crazy on the spot, even more demon than a demon, this is out of control." Dunn added accent to the word "out of control".

Before Klein could speak, he put the coffee cup and continued:

"After a long experiment and exploration, coupled with the birth of the 'blass slab', humans have finally improved the potion system and formed some gradual improvement and stable growth sequence chains. The lower the sequence number, the higher the level of the potion. To this day, the seven major churches each have at least one complete sequence, and there are still less complete 'paths' collected in hundreds of years and thousands of years."

"Blasphemy?" Klein keenly captured the term.

In the "party", the "hanging man" also mentioned it!

According to the "hanging man", blasphemy of the stone slab is the most critical factor in the formation and completeness of the potion system!

This is not the same as Dunn's words just now.

"This is something made by some evil gods. In which era they appeared, what they recorded, and what they were special, I am not very clear about. If you find clues, you must report them immediately. It has the highest response level." Dunn explained vaguely, "I just mentioned one of them out of control, and now I will talk about the remaining four."

"Hmm." Klein put the question of "blasphemy" behind his head and listened attentively.

"Although humans only have smart heads and no other extraordinary abilities, this is not absolute. There are always some lucky people, or unfortunate people, who are born with high inspiration, and that is, their ability to sense spirits. They can hear voices that others cannot hear, see things that others cannot see, and have some extraordinary characteristics."

When Dunn spoke, he looked at the empty surroundings, which made Klein feel creepy, "In other words, they are equal to the extraordinary people of half of the Sequence 9, and have fixed characteristics. Uh, Sequence 9 is the lowest grade in the "chain"... In short, they can only choose the corresponding, fixed sequence path. If they take it into another potion, they will have a slight mental abnormality, severe loss of control, and even more serious, they will die directly."

"I understand." Klein nodded slowly.

"The third type of out-of-control is similar to the second type. Once you choose the sequence chain, you can only follow this "path" and never regret it. If you take another "path", the appropriate sequence potion will likely gain a mixed, strange, and distorted ability, but it is almost certain that you are in a semi-crazy state, either sensitive and irritable, cruel and bloodthirsty, or silent and melancholy."

"And there is only one chance like this. Later, whether it is taking the original "path" potion or the current sequence potion, there is only one result of losing control, which is mental death, physical collapse into a monster, or transmuting into an evil spirit." Dunn said as he picked up the coffee cup and took a sip.

Klein, who was a little scared, was silent for a few seconds and said:

"What about the fourth type of out of control?"

"The fourth type, haha, this is one of the most common problems. When we take potions and obtain the ability that originally belonged to extraordinary species, it is an unnatural evolution, and will be more or less affected by residual mental effects. It may be asymptomatic and cannot be noticed by outsiders, but there must be hidden in our hearts. Before we fully master the extraordinary power brought by the potions and eliminate those subtle traces, we will rashly take the corresponding potions in a higher sequence, and we will accumulate madness and lose control..." Dunn suddenly fell silent.

After pausing for a moment, he sighed: "Our night watchmakers stipulate that even if the team members make great contributions, they must take the previous potion for three years and undergo corresponding examinations before they can get promoted. But even so, many people will lose control every year."

It's so scary... Klein took a breath and said:

"What about the last one?"

Dunn's mouth raised but no smiles were seen:

"The fifth type is also a common cause of out-of-control. For extraordinary people, inspiration has increased more or less. The smaller the sequence number, the more it increases. Therefore, you can hear voices that others cannot hear, see things that others cannot see, and encounter things that others cannot encounter, and are always tempted by mysterious and illusory bewitching. Once you have other stimulation or have greedy desires, you will lose control step by step."

As he spoke, Dunn turned to face up to him, and his gray eyes reflected Klein's figure.

His tone became slapped:

"Article Chanis, the founder of the modern night-watching system, once said:

"We are the guardians, and a group of poor people who are always fighting against danger and madness."
