546 [Eight People Forum]

The 2001 AAPEC series conference is the largest and highest-level international conference hosted by my country since the founding of New China. This is a qualitative example of the People's Daily, not the author's nonsense.

The APEC has a rotating presidency every year, and this year it is China's turn. In addition to holding a ministry-level meeting in Shenghai, a series of senior officials' meetings will also be held in Beijing, Shenzhen and other places. These senior officials' meetings have been held one after another since the Spring Festival.

Total, the APEC will hold 18 meetings and events in China this year.

In February, there was a seminar on AAPEC e-commerce and paperless trade, and Wang Juntao and Ma Xiaoyun attended the seminar on site. Song Weiyang proposed the SME Summit last year, and held a Ministry Z-level meeting in Shenghai at the end of August this year for discussion and approval. The APEC SME Summit will be officially held next year.

In September, the AAPEC Technology Expo was also held in Sucheng, and Shenzhou Technology also brought products to participate. Among them, the "USB wireless network card" performed the most. Due to the relatively low price, many domestic and Southeast Asian manufacturers have expressed their intention to order.

The meeting was held for nearly half a month from mid-October to the end of October.

The CEO summit that Song Weiyang attended will last from the 18th to the 20th. The previously set one-to-one "peak dialogue" has also been changed to the "eight-person forum". In addition to Song Weiyang and Bill Gates, there are also Lenovo's Mr. Yang, Great Wall's Mr. Wang, TCL's Mr. Lu, Tsinghua Tongfang, Sony China's Masada Hong, Intel's Global Vice President and General Manager of Asia Pacific.

The main reason for this change is that other bosses are unhappy. Song Weiyang can't be allowed to finish the show alone, right?

Whether it is a limelight or not is a small matter, but it is a big deal to be suppressed by Song Weiyang for nothing.

In fact, these are nothing to do with Song Weiyang. The single-to-one dialogue was proposed by Bill Gates. He still remembered the conversation between the two on the Tsinghua campus a few years ago, and was very interested in Song Weiyang, who became the richest man in just a few years, and took the initiative to ask the event party to arrange a face-to-face exchange.

After two consecutive days of CEA summits, Song Weiyang could only make group discussions. As for those keynote speeches, either the speeches of the leaders, the bosses of state-owned enterprises or collective enterprises, or the speeches of multinational enterprises or overseas Chinese wealthy people, private entrepreneurs like Song Weiyang have no chance to show their faces.

On the third day of the meeting, the "Eight Forum" was set up as a group topic, and many industry colleagues and media reporters were also present.

The temporary platform is built with eight single sofas in a semicircle. There is also a coffee table in front of each sofa, with nameplate, tea, fruits and melons. Among them, Bill Gates and Song Weiyang's seats are in the middle, Yang Yuanqing Lenovo and Lu Zhicheng's seats are in the middle, Chen Junsheng Intel Vice President and Masada Hong Sony China are in the outermost area, Wang Zhi Great Wall and Li Dongsheng TCL's seats are in the outermost area.

Mr. Liu from Lenovo did not come, but he was the introductor when Bill Gates gave his keynote speech this morning. His introduction was: "Today, here, I want to talk about two things that Mr. Bill respects me as an ordinary person. First, he used technology to promote the magic of today's society... Second, I respect him because he is a philanthropist. He and his wife donated $21.1 billion in funding and made great contributions to human health!"

There were about 300 people sitting in the audience, most of whom were practitioners in computers, Internet and related industries, as well as a few leaders and scholars.

The eight people rushed from other venues and did not meet alone in advance.

Bill Gates didn't talk to anyone, but waved to the audience, then smiled and took his seat directly.

After all eight people sat down, the others finally discovered the difference.

Although Bill Gates was wearing trousers and leather shoes, he only had a shirt on his upper body, and he took off the pink tie at some point. Song Weiyang had sneakers, jeans and T-shirts, and another suit was put on the outside without a suit. After the two of them sat down, they leaned over and leaned over at the same time. This was mainly because of the center seat problem. Sitting in front would face the audience, and only by sitting on the side could they look at each other.

But in the eyes of the participants in the audience, Song Weiyang and Bill Gates were the most casual. The remaining six people sat upright, were fully armed in suits and tie, and even had their ties meticulously.

"Thanks to eight entrepreneurs from home and abroad, as well as hundreds of leaders, experts and fellow friends on site, everyone is welcome to participate in today's AAPEC Eight Forum," an official cadre served as the host. "The theme of this group activity is the current dilemma and future prospects of computers and the Internet. Mr. Song, Mr. Yang, Mr. Lu... You seven can each ask Mr. Bill Gates a question, and then Mr. Bill Gates will ask questions."

Yang Yuanqing said directly, no matter what seats the seats are sorted, "Let me ask first. Mr. Bill Gates, although the Chinese market prospects are promising, the world's personal computer industry is at a turning point. In order to cope with fierce competition, many Chinese information technology companies are changing from product-oriented to application service-oriented. Do you have any advice to us?"

Bill Gates responded with a smile: "It is normal to respond to industry changes and adjustments at any time. The key lies in whether the company can produce better products with better functions at the same price or lower, or create new business opportunities through the integration of different functions. I think that as long as it is ultimately beneficial to users and the product is exciting, users will definitely buy it. For this reason, the company needs to continue to innovate."

"Okay, thank you." Yang Yuanqing put down the microphone.

Song Weiyang picked up the microphone and said to Lu Zhicheng from Tsinghua University, "Mr. Lu, come and ask questions."

As soon as this was said, many active and old fried dough sticks in the audience collectively showed a knowing smile on their faces. Since the host did not announce the rules, the question should be conducted according to the seats. Yang Yuanqing rushed to ask questions clearly made it difficult for Song Weiyang to do. If Song Weiyang continued to ask questions, it would be dismissed in public. If he did not ask questions or showed unhappiness, he would lose his demeanor in such an occasion. As a result, Song Weiyang looked plain and did not show any abnormality, and he also asked Lu Zhicheng to ask questions casually. In this way, Song Weiyang and Bill Gates were the core. He took the initiative to give the opportunity to ask questions to others and put his questions at the end.

"Smack it!"

Someone who is accused of a sudden applause and quickly stirs up a burst of applause.

Song Weiyang and Yang Yuanqing, who were secretly competing, were at this time, one was calm and the other was expressionless.

The two people's fight is not a personal grudge, but a result of commercial competition.

Since this spring, Shenzhou Computer's monthly sales have jumped to second place. Although it is far inferior to Lenovo, it has already had enough threats. The reason for the explosive growth of Shenzhou Computer's sales is, in addition to Song Weiyang's personal fame and advertising, the most important thing is to focus on mid-range models.

Now major manufacturers have completely reacted and are moving closer to the mid-range machine market. However, it is difficult to turn around with big ships, and it is easy to turn over with small ships. Computers from major brands have not started to focus on mid-range models until this summer vacation.

The current situation of domestic computer brands is that Lenovo's sales are the first in low-end machines; China Computer's mid-end machines rank second, low-end machines rank third; Great Wall Computer's low-end machines rank second, mid-end machines rank third.

The fundamental reason why Lenovo, which really makes all models the number one sales volume, feels that the fundamental threat is that computer component factories have been constantly shifting to China in the past two years, and they don’t need to import everything when producing domestic accessories. Therefore, Shenzhou Technology, which can produce motherboards by itself, has to carry out price reduction promotions every few days and every now and then, and the sales growth rate of mid- and low-end machines is very scary.

Not long ago, Shenzhou Technology even released news that it produced its own hard drive, which made Lenovo feel like it was facing a great enemy.

These bosses asked questions in a fair manner, only the boss of Great Wall, Wang Zhi, is the most funny. The gentleman is also the oldest. He asked: "Compared with Microsoft's products, Microsoft's prices seem to be less attractive, which is also one of the reasons for rampant piracy. Can you use Microsoft's software and pay while using it like making a phone call?"

The audience burst into laughter and applause immediately rang out.

Bill Gates calmly replied: "In any market, charging by usage is much more expensive than a one-time payment. For computer users, software should be the cheapest, followed by hardware, and the most expensive is communication costs. Even if the price is to be reduced, communication costs should be reduced. In addition, the pricing of Microsoft products is different. Education, charity and other institutions purchase software is particularly discounted."

Song Weiyang was the last question. He picked up the microphone, spoke slowly and his voice was clear: "Mr. Bill, what do you think of monopoly?"

Bill Gates finally changed his face, but he returned to normal in less than two seconds. He said righteously: "Monopoly is naturally not allowed. Microsoft's positioning is not a monopoly, but a leader and pioneer."

"Very good, thank you." Song Weiyang smiled and put down the microphone.

Bill Gates finally breathed a sigh of relief. He was really afraid that Song Weiyang would continue to ask questions. If he continued to ask, he would not be able to step down today.

Just last year, Microsoft was accused of "abuse of market dominance" and was ruled to split into two companies by the court. To put it bluntly, it is antitrust, which is very common in the United States. Take the film industry as an example. In the past, film companies could operate theaters, but after antitrust, no more theaters were allowed. All major Hollywood companies were split.

Bill Gates spent money everywhere and lobbying, finally letting another court overturn the ruling and allowing Microsoft to continue operating as a complete company. But before it was over, the EU began to accuse Microsoft of monopoly, ordering Microsoft's system to provide users with multiple browser options and issue hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.

This series of antitrust cases caused a large number of Microsoft executives to resign, and their stock price plummeted. It also directly led to Bill Gates resigning from his position as Microsoft Ceo and hiding in secret as the emperor to avoid the limelight.

At this moment, Bill Gates is no longer a Microsoft CEO. Although he regards the current CEO as a puppet, he does not dare to jump as much as before.

Bill Gates donated a total of US$20 billion in charity funds twice in a row, which happened to be a critical moment in Microsoft's antitrust case. When others sued him for monopoly, he would come out to do charity. This public relations are really done and can always perfectly divert the public's attention.

Song Weiyang actually asked Microsoft's most sensitive question in public and stepped on the brakes at critical moments, which made Bill Gates angry and angry, but he couldn't help but thank someone for leaving Song Weiyang. The man said in a complicated mood: "It's my turn to ask questions. This question specifically asks Mr. Song. You are the most successful businessman in China. What is the most important thing to sell software products in China?"

"Price." Song Weiyang said.

Bill Gates asked: "Do you think Microsoft's products are too expensive?"

Song Weiyang smiled and said, "Even if Microsoft systems are only sold for $1, most Chinese users will still think that they are too high, and they don't think that they are expensive if they sell for 10,000 yuan. Because the hardware is visible and the software cannot be touched. I can only say so much, and if you go deeper, it will be a commercial secret."

Bill Gates thoughtfully and suddenly smiled, "Thank you, I understand, this is the biggest gain of my trip."

Except for a few people on the scene, the other listeners felt inexplicable. Song Weiyang didn't say any advanced theories. Why did Bill Gates understand? And it was the biggest gain of this trip.

Bill Gates asked again: "How is Chinese consumers' acceptance of writing computers?"

Li Dongsheng of TCL replied: "According to Chinese habits, handwriting is of course easier to accept than keyboard input."

Lu Zhicheng from Tongfang of Tsinghua University said: "But the current handwriting computer is still not as comfortable as writing on paper. If it can be improved, handwriting computers should have a good market prospect."

Lenovo's Yang Yuanqing also said: "At present, many of the consumers in China are middle-aged people. They are not used to typing on keyboards, and I am very optimistic about the prospects of handwriting and computers."

Bill Gates asked Song Weiyang again: "What does Mr. Song think?"

Song Weiyang said: "Handwritten computers may have a market for several years in China, but they are destined to be eliminated. Shenzhou Technology will not invest in this area."

"Why were eliminated?" Bill Gates asked.

Song Weiyang said: "I have a calculator, so I will no longer use abacus, even if it is an abacus that can display the calculation results on the battery. The handwriting computer is for middle-aged and elderly consumers. The fundamental reason is that Chinese characters are inconvenient to enter. Instead of painstakingly launching a handwriting computer, it is better to enter Chinese characters more conveniently and quickly. Thanks to Mr. Bill's reminder, I will let Sogou launch the input method project immediately and strive to double the Chinese character input within two or three years."

Wang Zhi from the Great Wall smiled and said, "In the eyes of Boss Song, there are business opportunities everywhere."

The "Eight Forum" was just a question and answer. Netizens who watched the live text of the website were disappointed because they were completely different from the verbal battles they had imagined.

Song Weiyang had no choice but to have too many people, so he could only use the Q&A method, otherwise he would definitely have a quarrel on the spot.

However, there are still discerning netizens who see through the details. This person first popularized the Microsoft antitrust case and joked: "Song Dapao's words are so aggressive. The first question is about monopoly. Unfortunately, there is no video picture and only live text. Otherwise, you will definitely see Bill Gates's face very exciting. Unfortunately, Song Dapao stopped the topic and did not let Bill Gates get out of Taiwan in public."

"It should be the official reason, so you have to show mercy in this kind of occasion."

"Lenovo's Mr. Yang was very jumping and took the initiative to steal Song Weiyang's question. Old Song's response was a masterpiece. This guy actually played the host, making Yang Yuanqing look so angry."

"Is there any? Why didn't I see it?"

"Before the live text broadcast, there was a description of the seats on site. Song Weiyang and Bill Gates belonged to the main seat. When asked a question, Yang Yuanqing, the second seat, rushed to speak, and obviously defeated Song Weiyang's army. Song Weiyang assumed that it was a loss of face, and opposition was a loss of manners. This was to dig a hole for him to jump. Yang Yuanqing was too excited at most, and he couldn't wait to speak when he saw Bill Gates. Song Weiyang's response method was equivalent to going around the hole and kicking Yang Yuanqing who was digging the hole into the hole. Those who understand it will naturally understand."

"Awesome, awesome, I can't even imagine if you don't say it."

"These bosses are also very stingy, just doing some tricks for children."

"Children's tricks? If you try it, you will definitely fall into the pit without realizing it. Anyway, Song Weiyang is very impressed by me. I can adapt to that kind of occasion, so I can only say that both emotional intelligence and IQ are at full level."

"It seems that Song Weiyang is really not up to luck to be the richest man. He is born to make a living."

"Bill Gates said he understood, what did he understand? What was Song Weiyang expressing?"

"Song Weiyang means, don't talk to Chinese consumers, it's useless to talk. As for what Bill Gates thinks, he probably only knows that such a few simple words should affect Microsoft's market development strategy in China, so Bill Gates said that this is his biggest gain in this trip."

"Is Song Weiyang a teacher for Gates?"
