794. Small Town Story

Dong Qiangqiang, who was awakened by Du Lan's scolding, took the train to the north honestly and headed straight for Trier, a small border town in southwestern Germany.

On the shaking train, Dong Qiangqiang realized very clearly that the conversation did not achieve the purpose of his trip, and on the contrary, Du Lan's persistence in this relationship and her determination when she was broken up, as well as her incisive analysis of Dong Qiangqiang, all left him a completely different impression and feeling from the past. He felt ashamed, ashamed, and even a little shocked.

Breakup with Chen Yu once made him believe that Marquez wrote in "Hundred Years of Solitude": The past is fake, memories are a road without a return, and all springs in the past cannot be restored. Even the most chaotic and tenacious love is ultimately just a fleeting reality.

Du Lan's performance made Dong Qiangqiang feel completely different from when they were lovers. Du Lan is no longer a girlfriend, but also like a female version of Lao Bai, both a teacher and a friend, and a kind of unyielding relationship in times of trouble (although this hat is a bit big, she does make Dong Qiangqiang feel a strong sense of cherishing). Although he didn't divide it in the end, he couldn't help but worry about the future of the two, but it seemed impossible to have a strong separation. In the end, he could only follow what Du Lan said: the two of them go forward first, and the other moves are countered, and everything goes with the flow.

In fact, it is not difficult to understand if you think about it carefully. Du Lan has been alone for so many years and has to face the multiple tests of study, work and life at the same time. I am afraid that he has developed a character of not complaining and working hard. Not to mention that as a woman, Du Lan has to face more troubles and troubles than boys.

This may be one of the reasons why she was able to get out of Lao Chen’s shadow soon and assist Dong Qiangqiang in retrieving Lao Bai.

It was already afternoon when he arrived in Trier. Dong Qiangqiang took a free city map from the information desk at the railway station and easily found the bus to the university. Although he was full of curiosity about this small town as a tourism practitioner, he cared about Du Lan's advice and was unwilling to do anything else. He jumped on the bus and went straight to the university.

The university is located in the southwest corner of the city. Although it is September, there are not many people on the road or on the bus. When Dong Qiangqiang first landed in Hannover from Beijing, he was surprised that there were few people in Hannover. When he arrived in Trier, he found that Hannover was already crowded.

He remembered what Tong Lele told him before that Trier City is very small and the entire city has a population of only more than 50,000.

Although there are only 50,000 people, the city has a comprehensive university and an applied technology university. Unlike the United States that focus on school rankings, the Germans care more about the humanities and technology of universities. The two universities in Trier have both history, which are more than 500 years long and more than 100 years short (of course, they were destroyed to varying degrees during World War I and II, and were rebuilt after the war).

The Hannover in North Germany is at the junction of plains and mountains, and the terrain is mostly flat, while the Trier is in the mountains, and the roads you climb up and down can be seen everywhere. When encountering a steep slope, the bus drives very slowly. You have to avoid the coming buses on the opposite side, and you cannot encounter other vehicles parked on both sides of the road. Occasionally, the distance between the bus and other vehicles is only a palm-wide distance. Even Dong Qiangqiang, who is sitting in the car, can't help but feel worried about the driver, but the driver is calm and calm, driving the long Mercedes-Benz bus slowly in the winding narrow alleys. Many places that seem difficult to pass are also easily passed under the driver's rich experience.

Looking at the driver skillfully controlling the steering wheel, Dong Qiangqiang suddenly realized that his life now was like a big car climbing a hill in a narrow alley. When he felt that it was difficult and he could not see it, it might be because he was going uphill.

The high and low roads are lined with antique, lined up with traditional German herringbone sloping roofs, most of which are two-story buildings. Some roofs are covered with large and small solar panels, which are incompatible with the surrounding environment, but also have a sense of technology. Most of the windowsills facing the street are colorful plants. Occasionally, you can see green ivy covering most of the walls, or scaffolding that is high-rise to repair houses and various dark graffiti exterior walls.

After finally opening the residential area halfway up the mountain, Dong Qiangqiang felt that his eyes suddenly became clear. On the other side of the road were large vineyards all over the mountains. Although he had seen the Countess' vineyard, the scenery here was obviously even more spectacular. The afternoon sun was very bright and it sprinkled onto the lush vegetation of the vineyard without reservation. When the blue sky and white clouds were red like fire, and the clear green branches and leaves swayed gently in the wind, the color saturation of the whole picture was extremely high. As Dong Qiangqiang looked at it, he suddenly felt dizzy for no reason.

German public universities usually start school in October, and there are basically no people on campus in September, and they seem deserted. Occasionally, some students can be seen rushing into the university library from the station or from the student dormitory next to the university. I think they are students who return to school early or take the make-up exam.

Following the gray granite corridor between the blue and white teaching buildings, Dong Qiangqiang passed by the teaching building, library, catering area, multi-functional staircase and other buildings in turn, and finally entered the building where the University Admissions Office is located.

The building was very quiet, with no noise at all, which was completely different from the first time he went to the University of Hanover Admissions Office. Dong Qiangqiang held his breath and could not hear any sound behind the closed office door. Although it was his first visit, it gave him a sense of déjà vu.

It was not until he saw the office hours and appointment reminders hanging on the outer wall of the admissions office that he realized that today was not the office day of the admissions office. This was much better than his expectations. He thought that the admissions office was working days every day during the summer vacation, and even he forgot to make an appointment with the admissions office in advance.

After a few seconds of simple confusion, Dong Qiangqiang made up his mind. Everyone else had already arrived here, and they couldn't control too many of these rules.

He plucked up the courage to try and knocked on the door twice.

No one answered the door in the house.

Just as Dong Qiangqiang raised his wrist and was about to knock it louder, an elderly female voice whispered behind him: "The office is not open to the public today."

Dong Qiangqiang turned around when he heard the sound. A brown-haired woman with a kind face, wide body and fat body had already stood in front of the office door. She took out the key and opened the door without looking at him.

Although he knew that Germans were paying attention to the rules and would not make any changes, Dong Qiangqiang still explained with a smile: "Hello, ma'am, I know it's not for the public today, but my affairs are indeed very special."

The brown-haired woman walked in but did not close it immediately. This made Dong Qiangqiang feel that the matter was discussed and hurriedly added: "I just graduated from the Preparatory Economics Department of Lower Saxony University in July with a score of 1.7 and excellent. I applied for the National Economics major at Trier University, but to this day I have neither received an admission letter nor a rejection letter. I am very surprised and want to know why. I have called you before, and your colleague asked me to check the mailbox and go to the Hanover Post Office to inquire about the situation. I did both of these things, but I still got nothing. Now school is about to start. I really have no other way, so I can only come to you to see if I can find my application results. I am now carrying my passport and preparatory diploma, if I can..."

"I've said it just now," perhaps it was also incredible. The brown-haired woman's tone obviously slowed down after hearing Dong Qiangqiang's description. "I won't work to the public today. Come again on Friday morning."

Although the other party was slamming people, the feeling that Dong Qiangqiang was much more friendly than the feedback he received when he was dealing with the Hannover Admissions Office.

He probably couldn't tell the reason today, but he still said again with a dead attitude: "As you can see, I am a foreign student, I don't live in this city, and I have to work. It's really not easy to come to Trier once. It's September now, no matter what the result is, I hope to get a reply as soon as possible, even if I refuse the letter, so I would like to ask you to make an exception to help me check it out, which will not delay you for a long time..."

"The person responsible for issuing the notice has gone on annual leave," the brown-haired woman was not angry when she saw Dong Qiangqiang staying there, and her tone was still kind, "I came back to work on Friday. Only she can check it for you."

"That's right..." Dong Qiangqiang looked disappointed, and although he was unwilling to do so, he had to give up. "Then I'll make an appointment now. My name is Dong Qiangqiang. I will come back to visit on Friday. Thank you."

The woman nodded and began to lower her head to sort out the documents in her hand.

Without a valuable reply, Dong Qiangqiang left the building in disappointment. He planned to stay in Trier for a few days and come back on Friday. He refused to leave until he got the reply.

During the days of waiting, Dong Qiangqiang was not idle either and measured Trier with his feet.

As the oldest city in Germany, located at the junction of Germany, France, Luxembourg and Belgium, Trier, located on the Moselle River, celebrated its 2000th birthday in 1984!

Trier was once called "Northern Rome" and was an important city in the northern territory of ancient Rome. Trier's original Latin name Augusta Treverorum was founded by the Roman emperor Augustus, but before the Romans arrived, the area had been occupied by the Celtics for hundreds of years. Trier was the base camp of the Celtic-German Trevery tribe, which still built a temple somewhere in Trier, and the Roman bridge across the Moselle still retains most of the original Roman stone sculptures (some of which were destroyed by stone stolen). After hundreds of years of war, Trier became part of the German nation. Like many German cities, Trier was also destroyed in the war.

The university was first developed with the city. Its two majors in law and psychology are still among the top universities in Germany today. However, the Chinese only knows a few German universities, and they are ignorant of many universities recognized by Germans.

Today, Trier is a very walking town, with most of its main attractions within walking distance of the center of the Old Town. There is also a small tourist train that takes visitors to explore Trier's Old Town.

Trier is famous for its Roman history and its many archaeological and architectural attractions. The first thing to be affected is Trier's landmark building - Heimen. Heimen is the only one remaining among the four gates in the old city. It is similar to the Nine Gates of the Old Beijing City. The sandstone structure makes it survived the artillery fire of World War I and World War II. However, it is rare for Germans to restore its old appearance like restoration of other ancient buildings, and maintain its broken walls to this day. Dong Qiangqiang climbed up to the top of the Black Gate and looked at the scenery of the inner city. There was really no scenery. Not to mention that it was compared to Beijing, it was far from Hannover.

The same historical Basilica of St. Peter, which is quite different from the fate of Black Gate, is the same historical Basilica. Like the city itself, it is the oldest cathedral in Germany. This cathedral, built on Roman buildings, has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in war and was once much larger than it is now. Because of its obvious goal, the cathedral was repeatedly hit during the bombing of World War II, and was restored on a large scale from 1960 to 1974, and was later listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Others such as the Church of Our Lady, the House of Three Wizards, and the famous former residence of Marx, Dong Qiangqiang did not go to the ground to investigate and took photos. Finally, he even went to Luxembourg, 10 kilometers away, for a day trip.

Sitting on the return train, Dong Qiangqiang couldn't help but sigh that one-way trip from Trier to Luxembourg is faster than taking the bus from Haidian to Fengtai.

Good times are fleeting, and Friday will soon arrive.

Standing in front of the door of the admissions office, Dong Qiangqiang clarified his mind, cheered up his spirits, and then knocked on the door.
